This African-British soldier was simply a double standing in for Private Bell. I believe it was the same lad who portrayed Mailer all you see is him moving a blockade. 2.221.235.227 12:38, August 10, 2012 (UTC)
You also see him in the dinner scene, along with Bell. The unnamed soldier is sitting between Mitchell and Bedford, and Bell is sitting between Clifton and Farrell. I think you can also see him running down the mansion stairs with the other soldiers when Jim sounds the blockade siren. TroopDude (talk) 20:48, August 10, 2012 (UTC)

In the DVD Extras, the director(s) giving the commentary state that the soldier was simply an extra moving the barricade at the house, but was later given the role of Mailer by the crew. It is likely he was there just to make up numbers in the dinner scene, he can also be seen breifly in the scene where Farrell is trying to save the prisoners.
