Operation Rising Dawn was NATO operation intended to rebuild and repopulate Great Britain and repatriate British survivors and refugees following the Original Outbreak. It features in 28 Weeks Later.
Background[]
This operation was led by the US Army, specifically officers and soldiers from MEDCOM, the 82nd Airborne Division, Delta Force and Rangers, as well as air support from the 160th SOAR and Air Cavalry. Rising Dawn was presumably supported and assisted by the United Nations, European Union, aid agencies, and other countries (as indicated on the operation's branding logo). It also recruited civilians, such as Donald Harris, into certain infrastructure maintenance roles within District One.
History[]
Operation Rising Dawn was created following Week 24 of the Original Outbreak of the Rage Virus. A As part of the operation, the Isle of Dogs in London was secured by a US-led NATO force and converted into District One. District One was the first and only safe zone that was selected for this operation. The operation selected 15,000 British survivors and refugees to resettle in District One. This included Tammy Harris and Andy Harris, who had been on a school trip to Spain at the time of the first outbreak. Accommodations such as hot and cold water, 24 hour electricity, a medical center, supermarket and a pub were provided. New arrivals in District One were given gift boxes.
The operation was shut down due to the Second Outbreak, caused when Donald Harris became infected with the Rage Virus after kissing his wife Alice Harris, who unbeknownst to him was an asymptomatic carrier. Ultimately, a Code Red was instituted which oversaw the destruction of District One by firebombing, attempts to kill escaped infected with poison gas and flamethrowers in the surrounding London area and ultimately the re-institution of full enforced quarantine of Great Britain. It is not clear whether senior military commanders running the operation, such as Brigadier General Stone, were able to escape or were also ultimately killed when surviving infected breached their bunker perimeter.
