The French Republic (more commonly known as France) is a unitary semi-presidential republic in Western Europe with several overseas territories and islands located on other continents and in the Indian, Pacific, and Atlantic oceans. Film canon[]
Selena recalled that during the Original Outbreak of the Rage Virus in Great Britain, the day before broadcasts ceased, there were reports of Infection surfacing in Paris, France. However, these reports were presumably false, (28 Days Later (film)) as the Rage Virus was unable to cross oceans, and remained confined to Britain all throughout the Original Outbreak while Britain was completely quarantined by the rest of the world.
The day after the Second Wave of Infection began in repatriated London - which in itself occurred twenty-eight weeks after the Original Outbreak's twenty-eighth day - Operation Rising Dawn helicopter pilot Flynn went rogue and transported Tammy and Andy Harris across the English Channel towards France in his chopper, unaware that Andy was a Carrier of the Virus. Twenty-eight days afterwards, Flynn's helicopter was lying disheveled abandoned in a field, with its radio picking up a French distress call, while Infected were rampaging in the streets of Paris, meaning that the Rage Virus had spread to mainland Europe. (28 Weeks Later)
The Infection's presence was successfully purged from mainland Europe before it could spread and decimate the continent as it had Britain.[1][2] The Atlantic Wall Coastal Defence was subsequently erected; spanning along France's and its northern neighbors' coastlines to keep the Rage Virus isolated to the British Isles again. Coastal northwestern France, being inside the circular perimeter of the "unconditional isolation zone" around the former United Kingdom, was an "evacuation order preparedness zone" twenty-eight years after the Rage Virus had first broken out.[1]

28 Days Later (comic series)[]
Two months after the Original Outbreak's onset in Britain, the French were mass culling seagulls that flew over the English Channel out of paranoia that they could spread the Infection from Britain. The Manchester Three - Jim, Hannah and Selena - were initially taken to France after being rescued from Britain, although Hannah later went into German foster care and Selena went to a refugee camp in Norway. At the same time, Derrick and Clint Harris travelled to France from Germany in order to meet with Major Sanders, who took them to the Isle of Wight to see the US military's experiments with the Rage Virus on the isle.
The morning after the second outbreak in London, Selena and Clint Harris escaped across the English Channel to France in a small commandeered boat. The following day, Clint and Selena left Paris on a plane for New York, although their flight's take-off was briefly delayed by reports of a helicopter (implied to be Flynn's) crashing nearby. As the plane took off, Infected appeared on the ground.
