The French Republic (more commonly known as France) is a unitary semi-presidential republic in Western Europe with several overseas territories and islands located on other continents and in the Indian, Pacific, and Atlantic oceans. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean.

During the Original Outbreak of the Rage Virus in Great Britain, the day before Britain was quarantined, there were reports that the Infection had surfaced in Paris, France. However, these reports were presumably false. (28 Days Later (film))
Over a month after the outbreak, the French began culling seagulls that came into Europe across the English Channel (out of paranoia of the Rage Virus spreading to France through avian transmission). During this time, Jim, Hannah and Selena were rescued and taken to France. A short time later, Derrick and Clint Harris travelled to France from Germany, where they met Major Sanders, who took them to the Isle of Wight to see the US military's attempts to find a cure for the Rage Virus. The morning after the Second Outbreak of the Rage Virus in London and the destruction of District One, Selena and Clint Harris escaped across the English Channel to France. The next day, as Clint and Selena left Paris on a plane for New York, Flynn, Tammy and Andy Harris arrived in France via helicopter, and their helicopter crashed in or near Paris.
