Europe is, by convention, one of the world's seven continents. Comprising the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, Europe is generally 'divided' from Asia by the watershed divides of the Ural and Caucasus Mountains, the Ural River, the Caspian and Black Seas, and the waterways connecting the Black and Aegean Seas. Europe is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and the Black Sea and connected waterways to the southeast.
In 28 Days Later[]
During the Original Outbreak of the Rage Virus in Great Britain, the day before broadcasts in Britain ceased, there were reports of Infection in Paris, France in Europe. (28 Days Later (film)) However, these reports were presumably false as the Infection apparently didn't spread beyond Britain.
28 Days Later (comic series)[]
After the outbreak, Europe began culling seagulls coming in from Britain, out of paranoia of Infection spreading to mainland Europe through avian transmission. According to Derrick, the Rage pandemic in Britain also caused tourism in Europe to drop greatly. (28 Days Later (comic series))
Refugees from Britain created a considerable problem for the rest of Europe, as they imposed a considerable drain on resources of host countries and had no immediate hope of returning home.
28 Weeks Later[]
Six months after the Rage virus overran mainland Britain, a US-led NATO force entered London and began securing the city. Trash, wild dogs, wrecked vehicles, and disease spread by numerous dead bodies were prevalent. Rather than try resettling London directly, the Isle of Dogs was selected instead. The 82nd Airborne Division contributed most of the soldiers, under the command of Brigadier General Stone, but an unknown armored unit contributed M1 Abrams tanks, and the Army also sent Apache attack helicopters.
Civilians who had fled managed to escape and survive the infection were slowly returned, using London City Airport as the landing site and processing-in location. Apartment blocks were assigned as housing, and a pub was reopened. The U.S. Army's foot patrols, river boats, and snipers watched the area closely. An unexplained security oversight allowed a civilian custodian, Don, to get into the room where his wife Alice, an asymptomatic infected, was being held, and she infected him, sending him on a rampage that ultimately destroyed the area designated as District One.
Two days after the Second Outbreak in London, the Rage Virus spread to mainland Europe by unknown means and appeared in Paris. (28 Weeks Later, 28 Days Later (comic series)). Given how mainland Britain was overrun and destroyed in one month, France, and ultimately all of mainland Europe and even Asia, were by that time in an extremely dangerous situation.
