Cumbria is a non-metropolitan county in Northwest England. It consists of six districts, and in 2008 had a population of just under half a million. Cumbria is one of the most sparsely populated counties in the United Kingdom, with 73.4 people per km2 (190/sq mi). In comparison, the Borough of Barrow-in-Furness, in the south, has a population density over twelve times this at 921/km2 (2,385.3/sq mi).

In 28 Days Later[]

During the Original Outbreak of the Rage Virus, Cumbria was apparently wiped out by the Infection with the rest of mainland England.

28 Days Later (film)[]

After escaping the Worsley House, Jim, Selena and Hannah travelled to west Cumbria and took refuge in a secluded cottage there. Approximately fifty-six days after Infection broke out (by which time the Infected in Cumbria began to die off off from starvation), they sewed several cloth banners that spelled out "hello", to alerrt European militaries patrolling Britain's airspace to the survivors' presence. A Finnish jet flying over Cumbria noticed the message, and ordered that a helicopter be sent to pick up the three survivors.

28 Days Later (comic series)[]

Seven months after the Original Outbreak, Selena took a wounded Clint Harris to an abandoned town in Cumbria to treat his gunshot wound. A military patrol led by Sergeant Luis Rodriguez then arrived and found Clint and Selena, but Captain Stiles then arrived as well and murdered the entire patrol. Clint and Selena were able to steal Stiles' Hummer, and escape in it from him and flee from the town to a dock. Captain Stiles followed Selena and Clint, and took Selena captive and travelled with her to Manchester, leaving Clint for dead. A US military squad led by Dog then found Clint, and after learning from him of Captain Stiles, they went with Clint to Manchester to find Stiles and Selena.
